Advanced Network Laboratory (ANL) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was established in the spring of 2011 with 5 active faculty advisors, currently having 24 graduated doctorates or masters and more than 40 postgraduates. The mission of the lab is to conduct original research in various communication networks with an emphasis on research contributions and impact. Along this goal, we have identified a few exciting research topics from theoretical hardcore problems to real-word applications including distributed network and data processing, wireless network structure and optimization, wireless networks and mobile computing, the Internet of Things and sensor networks, game theory algorithms and applications. Current research projects have been funded by many sponsors including the National Science Foundation (NSF) of China, the Ministry of Education in China, the Ministry of Science Technology in China, and Shanghai Municipal Government. During the six years since the establishment, we have published hundreds of papers in well-known international journals and have won the best paper awards from many influential conferences such as ICNP, DASFAA and ICPADS. Because of our excellent contributions, we have won the first prize of natural science of Ministry of Education.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU),established in 1984, endeavors to build a world-class computer science discipline with international perspective and strong scientific focus, while cultivating top-tier computer science talents who thrive in both academia and industry. Striving and strengthening over the generations, Computer Science of SJTU has seen increasing influence on the world stage. According to the latest statistics, SJTU-CS ranked 13th in US NEWS Best Global University Rankings and 27th in the QS World University Rankings.
Currently there are 108 full-time faculty members in the department with 41% holding a PhD degree from overseas. Our faculty includes 1 Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 3 fellows of overseas Academies of Science/Engineering, and 6 IEEE Fellows. 24 faculty members were selected in the national high-level talent programs and 37 in national young talent programs. 60% of our faculty in the tenure-track system are the winners of national talent programs.
We are conducting cutting-edge research in various research areas. In recent years, our faculty members have won 3 national scientific research awards, 16 provincial scientific research awards, and 12 national teaching awards. Our faculty and students have won more than 50 best paper awards at various international venues. In 2023, 316 papers were published in CCF A-ranked conferences and journals. According to CSRankings in 2024, our research output ranked 5th in the world and 3rd in China.
The admission to both our undergraduate and graduate programs is highly competitive, and has attracted top students, not only from within China but also around the world. Our goal is to produce students with innovation capability and international vision through comprehensive training motivated by their individual interests. In the past years, our students have made many outstanding achievements, sweeping the championships in competitions such as the National Challenge Cup, the ACM International Programming Contest and the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), winning multiple international awards and more than 100 national awards.

The Grid P2P Sensor (GPS) is a research group belonging to State Key Laboratory for Novel Software Technology and the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Nanjing University led by distinguished Prof. Guihai Chen. Our research interests are centered around distributed computing, Internet of things, mobile computing, data mining and data centers, with the larger goal of making current and future networks easier to design, understand and operate. We are currently active in multiple areas including wireless charging, smartphone, routing and network update. Most of our projects are inherently tend to involve recent advances in approximation algorithm, combinatorial optimization, convex optimization and probability analysis. We published more than 300 papers in peer reviewed journals such as ACM/IEEE Transactions on Networks, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, IEEE Transactions on Parallel & Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions onKnowledge and Data Engineering, ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks, etc., and well known conference proceedings such as SIGMETRICS, VLDB, MOBIHOC, INFOCOM, ICPP, ICDCS, ICNP, IPSN, AAAI, HPCA, etc. We received the best paper award from MOBICOM 2009, ICCS2014, AAMAS 2014, ICNP 2015, ICPADS 2016, CloudComp 2016, DSAFA 2017, INFOCOM 2017.
Huawei Taylor Lab is a research lab for Huawei Technologies. Its research areas include the core theories of theoretical computer science such as complexity theory, algorithm design, as well as its applications in different related domains such as economics and operations research. The missions of the lab are (1) to become a world-class research center in theoretical computer science and explore new frontiers in science and technology, and (2) to provide algorithmic solutions for Huawei and create value for our customers.
From a theory perspective, we work in the broad domain of theoretical computer science, including its intersection and interactions with other fields. Our objective is to solve important open questions and develop innovative techniques and theoretical tools that link theoretical computer science to other disciplines in science and technology. In particular, we hope to combine theoretical computer science, heuristic methods, operations research, and machine learning, and design innovative algorithms with both theoretical guarantees and real-world applicability.
From an application perspective, we work closely with different business sectors within the company and provide algorithmic solutions that can be directly applied to existing and new products and services at Huawei, such as ICT products and solutions, Consumer Business, and Huawei cloud service. Through the lens of our algorithms, we aspire to continuously provide value and solve problems for our customers.
One final mission of the Taylor Lab is to connect theory and application, and to bring together academia and industry. Through the means of joint laboratory, visiting scholars, collaborative project, postdocs, and internships, we aim to foster a close relationship with the global academic community and co-create research that better serves the society and the world.
